Currently, Minda operates 34 community houses, which are located throughout the southern metropolitan suburbs. These houses provide accommodation and support for people with intellectual disability, generally in groups of four or five residents. Over 200 individuals are accommodated by Minda out in the community.
Minda's community homes provide individuals with an opportunity to live independently in a community setting that promotes skills and emotional growth whilst accessing the services and social interaction afforded to others in the community. Community accommodation provides choice and diversity for tenants, while encouraging self-help, self-management and strengthening connections with the community.
Services provided by the Community Accommodation area is support for those individuals who have chosen to live independently in community based accommodation. Other services provide support for those who require a quiet environment and lifestyle, embracing the philosophy of “Ageing in Place”, or for individuals that need an alternative range of accommodation options for people wishing to reside in the community but for whom higher levels of physical and/or emotional support are required.
